According to reports from the Korean industry site, TheElec, the first foldable phone from Google is now expected to not hit the market until spring 2023. This information was also validated by Ross Young a trusted analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), in a tweet. He tweeted, “Hearing from multiple sources in their supply chain that the Google foldable launch was delayed till next spring…”
— Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) May 25, 2022 People with knowledge of the matter reportedly told TheElec that the phone’s release date has been postponed yet again mainly because the device was not being as complete as Google wants. This is the second time that Google has delayed the release of its foldable smartphone. Initially, it was planned to launch in late 2021 along with the Pixel 6 series but later got pushed to the fourth quarter of 2022. Considering several issues faced by Google’s competitors while making a foldable smartphone such as build quality, problems with the flexible display and hinges, durability, malfunction, and more, it is not surprising that Google is taking its own time to come out with its near-perfect first foldable smartphone. With the delay yet again, we can expect that the Pixel Fold may not be out anytime soon before next year. Earlier this month, the specifications of Pixel Fold were leaked. The smartphone is expected to feature a 7.57-inch in-folding main screen with an ultra-thin glass cover (made by Samsung Display), coupled with a 5.78-inch external secondary screen. The device is also believed to come with 12GB of RAM with the new Google Tensor chipset.
