Just like the other Linux Mint 18 versions, the Ubuntu-based KDE distro receives five years of security and software updates, until 2021. You can upgrade to a fresher version after that, if you don’t have one. Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” KDE Edition receives almost all of the essential components of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, including the KDE Plasma 5.6 desktop environment, as well as the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel. The updated software brings modifications and many new features to make your desktop even more comfortable to use. With the Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” KDE Edition operating system, you also get the redesigned Update Manager tool, artwork improvements, better HiDPI support, Btrfs support, support for the exFAT file system, and more. The Mint team is also including the Kubuntu Backports PPA (Personal Package Archive), which it promises will provide newer updates to KDE Plasma 5.
